From “am I? ” to ” I am”

Who am I

A question that pops up atleast once in the lives of all sane individuals living on planet earth

It’s a question that I’ve struggled with for a good period of my life, and it’s something that I was taken back to today, when I feel I’ve matured as a person, and that I might, today have a different perspective on this paradox of sorts

Who you are, what you do, and your sphere of influence

3 things that are just as interrelated as they sound to be and for good reason

Your actions can only have a significant effect in your sphere of influence, for example- the people you talk to, the communities you are active in etc etc

And if u add your actions to consequences that they bring about, you can learn a lot about yourself as a person

I used to have a theory, rather an observation that since the sphere of influence of humanity is only limited to earth and its own advancement, that we as a species are without a purpose.

And if you think about it, what do we really do for someone or something that’s not human?

The answer is- not so much. Infact our arrival and claim to world dominance did nothing much to improve the lives of the other species living on earth . What we did manage to do however was abuse our power and knowledge to an extent where topics like global warming and animal extinction are part and parcel of our daily routines

So then, why us? Why were we choosen to be the most intellectually advanced community on earth.

Were we even choosen? Or was it all just a matter of dumb luck that you and I exist today.

These are questions that cannot be answered, and hence are beyond my capacity to answer or dvelve further on

So then, in a world where we don’t seem to have any celestial purpose besides the expansion of our own race, do we have a purpose at all?

I think we do, and it’s a bit more than the traditional concepts of responsibilities and professional advancements

I feel like the only purpose we truly have at the end of the day is to understand ourselves.

not world peace, not global domination,

Just to connect with yourself, to understand how you work, what makes you tick, what are your aspirations

A simple task such as this takes a lifetime to accomplish, if you’re lucky that is

Were all living our own lives, surrounded by external opinions and influences, be it out parents, teachers, friends or colleagues but not one of them is tuned to match your own internal connection

Everyone can tell you how to run the world, but not a single person would be able to tell you, how to run yourself.

Only you can do that for yourself, and if you truly want to know your place in the world, you must, because how can u dare to understand the world if Ure constantly turning a blind eye to what’s inside?

I think I’ll end this with one of the most beautiful quotes I’ve read in a while-

” you work so hard to fix yourself, but maybe what you need isn’t another tactic, another book, another 5 step plan. Maybe you don’t need to be fixed. Maybe what’s really holding you back is the idea that you need to be fixed. “
