Let’s make this clear, I love horror. I would have added infinite oo s between l and v but I’m pretty sure wordpress has a word limit…
My love for horror, is kind of newfound though. In fact if I was writing this post 5 years ago, the title would be-why the government should ban horror, exactly why Growing up is so random.
I live in India, and we’re pretty much a joke in the name of horror. I mean one moment the victim is running for her life from a bloody emaciated ghost, and the next moment, she’s doing this quirky bollywood step with her fiance while a love song plays in the background. This is however changing as we Indians realized that the dancing does not suit the mood of the movie, and we should replace it by sex. So now, when you go to watch an Indian horror film, you might come across some scenes which are visually disturbing to young audiences, but that’s enough about Indian horror,it’s time for the real deals.
I was introduced to the exorcist-the so to say masterpiece of horror, 5 years ago. I read the plot, and typed its name on Google images, and didn’t sleep all night. I woke up with a fever in an empty home cause my mom was at work, and she asked our neighbors to pick me up. Of course I didn’t tell a soul about the movie, cause It would have been embarrassing as hell, since I didn’t even watch the movie and only read the plot. Also I was supposed to be studying at that time….
My next serious encounter was the conjuring, and it blew me away with fear. The conjuring was way above the exorcist in terms of the plot, direction and impact, and it goes without saying that I didn’t sleep all night. These were my first 2 serious horror films, both vastly different from each other in style and storytelling. However, today these seem like child’s play, no pun intended (child’s play is also a horror movie)
Today I can give you 3 of the best horror films I have watched.
In terms of impact, my favorite horror movie is the exorcism of Emily ross, because 1. It’s based on a true story, and 2. The acting is amazingly realistic. It might not be that scary, but if there’s one movie which can make you believe in demons it is this one.
In terms of villain centric, it’s definitely and most undoubtedly – IT, which has just released last year. Pennywise is the best horror movie villain that I have seen, and is scary as hell. The film is overall not the scariest but the villain will stay with you for a long time.
My favorite horror movie overall is the most underrated film-
the babadook .
If you haven’t seen this one you’re missing out on one of the best directorial debuts and one of the scariest films of all times. Even the director of exorcist called it the scariest movie he has watched and that’s saying something!
This movie will scare the shit out of you without any blood or gore, and will make you rethink about the storybooks you buy for your child. The villain is amazing and the story is very well thought of.
That’s all for today folks!
